Cultural Resources Survey Letter Report On The Proposed Dry Storage Area At The Fort Sam Houston Recreational Area, Canyon Lake, Comal County, Texas
Part of the 1995 Cultural Resources Survey, Fort Sam Houston Recreational Area project
Author(s): Timothy S. Dalbey
Year: 1995
Summary
The FSHRA is used by approximately 225,000 people a year for boating, camping, and many other recreational activities. In order to better facilitate the recreation users, a Dry Storage Parking Lot is proposed for parking boats, trailers, and recreational vehicles at FSHRA. The proposed Parking Lot is located in the south-west corner of the designated RV/Camper area (Figure 2). The area to be impacted is approximately 0.40 ha. (ca. 44,000 ft2) and includes constructing a chain link fence for security around the parking lot area that will be graded level to a depth of 15 cm, filled with gravel, including a short gravel road (10 m) from the existing RV/Camper road.
No historic properties were located within the proposed Dry- Storage area at the FSHRA. By applying the criteria set forth in 36 CFR Part 800.4(a)-(c) and 800.5(b), it is the government's determination that the undertaking will have no effect on historic properties at FSHRA. While at the recreation facility, the entire recreation area was surveyed and the results will follow in a separate report.
