An Archaeological Treatment Plan for Two Sites in the Concho East Well Field, Apache County, Arizona
Author(s): Douglas R. Mitchell; Dennis Gilpin
Year: 2001
Summary
This document represents a treatment plan that is designed to conduct eligibility testing and data recovery at two archaeological sites within the Concho East Well field project area. SWCA, Inc. conducted a cultural resource survey at the request of Salt River Project (SRP) north of Concho, Apache County, Arizona in November 2000, which involved a 10,613-foot-long, 100-foot wide corridor and a total of 110 acres in four parcels adjacent to the corridor. SRP is proposing to construct two new wells and approximately 10,700 feet of new pipeline, which will connect to the existing water delivery system to the Coronado Generating Station. The 134.4-acre project area is located in Sections 15,16,17,18, and 21, T13N R26E, Gila and Salt River Baseline and Meridian, Apache County, Arizona. The survey areas include Arizona State Trust land (Lease Application No. 14-106407), land owned by the SRP, and lands owned by private parties.
As a result of the survey of the Concho East Well field project area, six sites and 43 isolated occurrences were found (Ryden et al. 2001). Four sites were considered to be ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). One site, located on State Trust land, was determined to be eligible for inclusion on the NRHP under Criterion D. A sixth site, located on private land, is considered potentially eligible (Eligibility determinations were made in a letter from the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office to the Arizona State Land Department, June 21, 2001). The plan of work for such a data recovery program is presented in this document.
This file is an updated version dating November 2001.
