An Environmental Evaluation of Scenic, Historic and Land Use Considerations for the Coronado Project, St. Johns, Arizona
Author(s): Wirth Associates
Year: 1975
Summary
From January to April of 1974, Wirth Associates, as part of a larger study team, conducted environmental studies for the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP) on their proposed Coronado Generating Station. The purpose of these studies was to assess the potential environmental conflicts of the proposed 1050 MW generating station on the scenic, historic and land use resources of two alternate plant sites (near the towns of St. Johns and Snowflake, Arizona) and their contiguous environs. An environmental impact study report on this work was released in August of 1974.
Since completion of these studies the St. Johns site has been selected as the proposed site for the Coronado Generating Station. The site originally evaluated has since been expanded to include an area for ash disposal, and both the well fields and water pipeline locations have been further defined. Since these aspects of the project were only addressed in general terms at the time of the original site studies, the purpose of this study report is to present additional studies recently completed on the St. Johns site, as well as to provide a study report which consolidates the environmental information gathered in both past and recent studies.
