Summary

Archaeological testing was conducted in April and May of 2013 of approximately 132 hectares (326 acres) of land within 29 prehistoric and historic survey blocks and four pedestrian survey blocks at Lakehurst portion of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL). A total of 1,611 shovel test pits were excavated in the 29 survey blocks within the JB MDL Lakehurst study area. No prehistoric artifacts were recovered from and no features were noted within the high, low, or moderate prehistoric blocks in the study area. Two historic sites were recorded within the study area. Site 28-OC-178, the former Russian Proving Ground, is recommended eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
