Author(s): Carolyn A. Pierce; Todd P. Harrington

Year: 2000

Summary

A Stage 1 cultural resource investigation was conducted in compliance with a Cultural Resource Management Plan (CMP) for the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station (NFARS) located in the towns of Niagara and Wheatfield, Niagara County, New York. Current Stage 1 investigations included background literature, site file and historic map research and development of a sensitivity assessment. Based on the sensitivity assessment, field methods were employed that included walkover reconnaissance, subsurface (shovel) testing in vegetated areas and photographic documentation of highly disturbed portions of the project area. Several widely-scattered historic (modem) artifacts were identified within the project boundaries. None of these were considered to be culturally important. No further cultural resource investigations are recommended for the proposed NFARS.
