Final Report Section 110-Eligibility Assessment (Pre-1967 Resources)

Author(s): Tetra Tech

Year: 2013

Summary

Tetra Tech, Inc. (Tetra Tech), under contract to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), conducted an architectural resource survey (eligibility assessment) of 167 facilities on the JB MDL. JB MDL is located in Ocean and Burlington Counties, in central New Jersey. This report describes a historic architectural resource investigation of those previously unrecorded, pre-1967 buildings at JB MDL identified by base personnel for survey.

This study was conducted as part of JB MDL's compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (16U.S.C. 470h-2), as amended (Section 110). Under Section 110, JB MDL is responsible for identifying, evaluating and nominating historic properties that are defined as significant according to the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Evaluation (48 FR 44716, as amended. Air Force policy with regard to historic properties is to establish and maintain a program for determining the eligibility of resources, contained within JB MDL's boundaries, for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (National Register)

All 167 facilities were researched during the survey: 20 were found to have been demolished, constructed after 1968, or could not be located in the field; therefore, no formal recordation or National Register of Historic Places (National Register) eligibility review was undertaken for these facilities. The other 147 facilities were recorded on New Jersey Historic Preservation Office (NJHPO) site forms and recommendations about National Register eligibility were made: 138 facilities were recommended as not eligible for inclusion in the National Register. Six of the facilities -- JB MDL Facilities 447, 1506, 3209, 9004, 9362, 9363 -- were recommended as eligible to the National Register.
