National Register of Historic Places Inventory-Nomination Form: Hartshorne-Harker House [Draft]
Author(s): Keith C. Buch
Year: 1984
Summary
This is the draft nomination form for the Hartshorne-Harker House or Quarters One (Fort Dix Commanding General's Quarter) at Fort Dix. Quarters One, built in 1848, is one of two structures within the confines of Fort Dix, New Jersey that predate construction of the installation and is among the oldest structures on the post. The driveway was originally the main road into World War I-era Camp Dix until construction of the present traffic circle and road. The house is a five-bay 2½-story frame farmhouse with central entry, two interior chimneys, and four gable end chimneys. The form and style reflect the vernacular house type characteristic of Burlington County in the nineteenth century and suggests the historic agricultural base of this area. The nomination form includes background research, a site plan, topographic location map, and photographs.
