Archaeological Monitoring at Roeser Road, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona

Summary
This report presents the results of archaeological monitoring at a project area located along Roeser Road. The monitoring was conducted at the request of the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department under an on-call archaeological services contract between the City and SWCA, Inc, (Contract no. 90034) and was assigned project number PGM 2000-14 by the City of Phoenix Archaeology Section.
Archaeological monitoring was conducted during trench excavations along Roeser Road because prehistoric canals pass the project area to the north and south with branches of these canals recorded within 100 feet of the project area. A small artifact scatter located around the project area was recorded by Gila Pueblo as PHX 5:2(GP) and described as a Classic period Hohokam Village. A large Hohokam village, known as Lombeye Ruin, was recorded less than a mile from the project area.
No prehistoric artifacts were encountered during monitoring and no intact subsurface features were observed. No known significant archaeological resources are likely to be adversely affected by construction associated with this project, no further work is recommended.
