Summary
Historical artifacts from Room 28 in Pueblo Bonito provide a unique opportunity to investigate what the Hyde Exploring Expedition, Moorehead, and National Geographic Society excavations left behind during their excavations between 1896 and 1927. Using the 2013 UNM excavations in Room 28 as a starting point, analysis of the historical artifacts found in excavation and stabilization over the last century provides an important perspective on how those early excavators discarded their own material culture in the rooms of Pueblo Bonito. As a whole, this analysis provides an archaeology of the early "archaeologists" of Pueblo Bonito.
