Summary
This document presents the results of archaeological testing at AZ T:7:149 (ASM), AZ T:7:150 (ASM), and AZ T:7:151 (ASM) within the Dos Rios Development near Sun City West, Maricopa County, Arizona. SWCA conducted archeological testing at two prehistoric Hohokam sites, AZ T:7:149 (ASM) and AZ T:7:150 (ASM), and one historical Euroamerican site, AZ T:7:151 (ASM), prior to the proposed residential development of the 195 acre parcel in which the sites are located. These three sites were recommended for further testing, after their identification during survey-level investigations, to provide a more informed evaluation of their National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility status (Adams 1997).
Based on the results of archaeological testing, AZ T:7:149 (ASM), AZ T:7:150 (ASM), and AZ T:7:151 (ASM) do not appear to contain significant or new information regarding prehistoric and historic occupation of the lower Agua Fria River drainage. AZ T:7:149 (ASM) and AZ T:7:150 (ASM) appear to be Hohokam resource procurement and processing areas. AZ T:7:149 (ASM) may also have functioned as a temporary habitation although data remain equivocal on this issue. AZ T:7:151 (ASM) consists of a cobble structure that probably dates between 1915 and 1930 and an early 1900s rock alignment that is related to early twentieth century water control efforts along the second and third terraces of the Agua Fria River. AZ T:7:149 (ASM), AZ T:7:150 (ASM), and AZ T:7:151 (ASM) are not recommended as eligible for listing on the NRHP under any criteria. Accordingly, no further archaeological work is recommended at these three sites.
