Summary
This collection is referred to as “Archaeological Excavations for the Jenkins House Site (46CB41) 2002-2003.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is twenty six (26) linear inches.
The documents date from 2002-2013. The investigation occurred in 2002, which explains the date in the investigation name. The range of dates includes analysis and report records. This collection was originally housed in acidic folders in a plastic file box with a lid, a cardboard banker’s box, and acidic cardboard messenger tubes.
The documents were in fair condition, though many of the documents in the field records were dirty and showed heavy wear. Many of the documents contained metal contaminants, tears, and folds, with many of the folds occurring along the outer edges of the documents. The metal contaminants were removed using a microspatula, the tears were mended with acid-free tissue mending tape, and the folds were smoothed with a bone tool. Some of the documents also contained small stains; attempts were made to remove the stains with a vulcanized rubber eraser and Absorene, but these attempts largely failed.
The documents were housed in a clearly discernible original order, and this order was generally retained. The documents were generally housed in chronological order with like materials. In addition, the field records were also organized by provenience, leading to very little reorganization of the documents.
