For decades, Professor Steven Shackley has been on the forefront of methodological and theoretical developments in obsidian characterization studies, and his contribution to our understanding of past human societies is immeasurable. This presentation focuses on the specific archaeological questions and issues that Professor Shackley has addressed over his long career, in turn highlighting how his scholarship has influenced the way archaeologists contextualize obsidian provenance data and how his work has impacted an entire generation of researchers around the world.
