Author(s): Leslie B. Kirchler-Owen
Year: 2020
Summary
This is a paper/report submission presented at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
Eyes up, folks! Archaeology is not just about what is on or in the ground, but instead is and can be so much more. When thinking of a career in archaeology – what happens if you are not an academic researcher, or if you cannot land a coveted full-time position at a cultural resources management firm? The purpose of this paper is to discuss those other “connected” options and to explore potential ways to utilize an archaeology degree through exploring how the author and colleagues negotiated their careers. This paper also touches on necessary skillsets to help connect to related courses of study and disciplines in advance of entering the job market.
