Archeological Reconnaissance of Assault Runway Additions Altus Air Force Base, Jackson County, Oklahoma
Author(s): Steven De Vore
Year: 1991
Summary
The continuation of a Class I archeological reconnaissance survey was conducted on three isolated parcels included in land additions for an assault runway to the east side of the Altus Air Force Base, Jackson County, Oklahoma. A total of 222.48 acres were surveyed between December 1 and December 3, 1991. The initial land addition survey was conducted in 1989. Four historic sites were located during this survey. All of these resources have been subjected to disturbances which have severely compromised their integrity. This is primarily the result of extensive land modifications by land owners over the past thirty years. As a result of the these factors, the four identified historic archeological sites are recommended as ineligible for listing on National Register of Historic Places .
