Between Ajo and Gila Bend: Cultural Resources Survey in the Vicinity of Four Auxiliary Airfields on the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range

Summary

Survey areas were selected primarily as an opportunity to record and evaluate the historical significance of several auxiliary airfields located between Ajo and Gila Bend on the Goldwater Range. Simultaneously, this provided an opportunity to sample valley floor and lower bajada settings for prehistoric sites. The sensitivity model developed for the Goldwater Range as a result of prior surveys projected few prehistoric sites in these environmental zones. A secondary purpose of the survey was to provide "clearance" for development of four temporary storage yards for use by the Goldwater Range explosive ordnance disposal team.
