Summary

This Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP) provides guidance for the effective and efficient management of cultural resources as an integral part of the Base Comprehensive Plan (BCP), as required by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 32-7065, Cultural Resources Management, for the five-year period beginning in fiscal year 2009. This plan includes a summary of the history and prehistory of the base, and reviews past architectural and archeological survey efforts. It outlines and assigns responsibilities for the management of cultural resources and discusses standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Andrews Air Force Base (AFB). Guidance and procedures regarding consultation and the care and management of cultural resources of Andrews Air Force Base within the context of the base mission are addressed. This document was prepared as a reference guide for any base employee involved in installation planning activities on Andrews Air Force Base.

Goals for the cultural resources program over the next five years (2009-2013) include: (1) conducting an archeological survey of a 15-acre parcel at the north end of the base, (2) providing cultural resources training to base personnel, (3) curating archeological artifacts and associated documentation in accordance with 36 CFR 79; (4) updating the Geographical Information System (GIS) component of the BCP to include all National Register-eligible cultural resources; and (5) creating a flier for distribution during Historic Preservation Week designed to educate base personnel about Andrews Air Force Base's cultural resources. Years 4 and 5 goals include continued education of base personnel regarding cultural resources.
