Monitor of New Gas Tank Storage Facility at Building 318, F,E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming

Part of the F.E. Warren AFB Project Metadata project

Author(s): Rick Bryant

Year: 1992

Summary

On 12 Nov 1992 a Zone A worker reported the discovery of a large concrete 'floor' in the posthole he was digging. Rick Bryant inspected the area and did some further excavation. The remains consisted of a fire brick circular object about 4 inches thick and 3 feet in diameter with a groove around the edge. It appeared to be part of a boiler or kiln. Several other pieces of firebrick with straight edges, a few pieces of red brick, glass fragments and cut nails. All the materials were found in the upper 15 to 20 centimeters of soil, which overlay a black 'greasy' clay. It appears that the historic materials were dumped as part of the fill materials along the railroad track.

No further archaeological work is required.
