Summary
The goals of this Historic Structure Report (HSR) are two-fold. The first goal is to provide documentary, graphic, and physical information about Missile Alert Facility Quebec-1 (MAF Q-1)'s history and existing conditions. It is based on historical research and physical examination that documents the evolution of MAF Q-1, its historic significance, and its current condition.
The second goal is to address the potential transfer of MAF Q-1 to the State of Wyoming for reuse as a museum operated by Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails (SPHST). While the Launch Control Support Building and subsurface Tunnel Junction, Launch Control Center, and Launch Control Equipment Building would form the core of the museum, it is anticipated that the Vehicle Support Building would be converted to function as the visitor center. Therefore, the HSR provides the historic preservation objective, selected treatment as defined by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties, requirements for work, and recommended work to assist in the process of converting MAF Q-1 into a museum. It also includes an update of a preliminary U.S. Air Force cost estimate to undertake the work.
Field work and research were conducted at MAF Q-1 during the week of February 11 , 2013. Field work consisted of a site visit to MAF Q-1 organized by the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) based at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
