Summary
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2023: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology.
Reservoirs have been an integral part of American history since the nations founding, culminating in over thirty million acres of land being submerged. Inundated by the waters of these man made lakes were innumerable cultural resources that have been lost. Lost to the communities who lived there, to archaeologists, and to the population at large. Determined to have been destroyed by the construction of these reservoirs, these resources may in fact be some of the best protected cultural resources across the nation and each of these reservoirs may provide us with unique opportunities in advancing our knowledge.
