Summary
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2023: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology.
Historically, the shift from the study of form to the study of techniques was guided by the transition from the Cultural History approach to the New Archeology. This theoretical readjustment was incorporated into Brazilian archeology decades later, strongly impacting the way that the collections was studied. Today the reality is that, although lithic studies have advanced considerably in methodological terms, in Brazil there is still a great reluctance to understand form as a complementary attribute for technological analysis. Considering as a case studies collections composed of points, located in five different watersheds, this presentation aims to show how the technological approach, applied in isolation, may not be able to delimit the variability of assemblages when they are compared regionally.
