Summary

Exploratory testing report in the form of a memorandum with a report by Gary Huckleberry, Geoarchaeological Assessment of Possible Prehistoric Canals at the Salt River Project's Randolph Switchyard, Randolph, Pinal County Arizona, August 10, 2009.

Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP), Logan Simpson Design (LSD) has completed exploratory testing in the location of the Randolph Switchyard south of Coolidge.

Summarizing, exploratory testing was fully implemented within the location of the Randolph Switchyard and no intact buried cultural deposits or features were encountered. A possible secondary flake was exposed in the north end of Trench 4 and the only surface artifact encountered was a lightly used cobble mano fragment. The lithic assemblage identified during testing and that previously reported, appears to be typical of those associated with the Hohokam. Barring the discovery of previously undocumented archaeological remains during project-related ground disturbing activities, no further archaeological work is recommended for the SRP Randolph Switchyard.
