Summary

FHWA and ADOT completed a roadway improvement project along Historic SR-88, also known as the Apache Trail, between MP 203.40 and MP 220.20, northeast of the town of Apache Junction, Maricopa County, Arizona. The undertaking included milling existing pavement and laying new pavement along SR-88 between MP 203.40 and 213.35; applying a double application of chip seal coat on the existing roadway between MP 213.35 and MP 220.20; removing the pavement at 5 existing pullouts; constructing new pavement at 6 turnouts; modifying the crown of the eastbound (EB) approach at the Boulder Canyon Bridge (ADOT Structure #193); reconstructing roadway curves at six locations; modifying existing culverts to accommodate the curve improvements; removing a large rock above the roadway near MP 212.70; repairing the concrete ford across Tortilla Creek; shoulder stabilization, adding new guardrail and guardrail endcaps; removing and replacing signage; vegetation removal and grading; and temporary usage of three staging areas.
