Riverton Site, IL (11CW170) Project

Summary

The Riverton Site is a Late Archaic shell midden located north east of the town of Palestine, Illinois. The site is situated between the Wabash River to the east and an abandoned channel to the west. Prehistorically the area site may have been an island.

Dr. Paul Parmalee analyzed the faunal remains. For vertebrate remains, Dr. Parmalee only recorded attributes for the following variables: taxon, element, completeness (whole vs fragmentary), the number of identified specimens, and miscellaneous comments. For Mollusks, he recorded only taxon and NISP.
