ROI114, An Archaeological Survey of Summit Lake State Park, Henry County, Indiana

Summary

This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 114 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University. The Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL) at Ball State University conducted a data enhancement project for archaeological resources within Summit Lake State Park, Henry County, Indiana for a FY2019 Historic Preservation Fund grant (Grant #19FFY-06). This Historic Preservation Fund grant project included the investigation of the archaeological resources of the Summit Lake State Park in Henry County, Indiana with a focus on the field verification of two possible Mound sites (12-Hn-17 and 12-Hn-74). A total of 61.89 acres (25.01 hectares) of agricultural and forested land was surveyed (Permit #2019028). Throughout the survey, 31 new archaeological sites were documented. The survey recovered 168 pre-contact artifacts and 231 historic artifacts, and three faunal remains from two survey areas. Eighteen features were identified throughout the survey. No human remains were discovered as a result of this grant project. Cultural periods represented in the artifact assemblage include Middle to Late Archaic period, Woodland period, Unidentified Prehistoric and unidentified Historic.
