ROI103, An Archaeological Survey of Fulton County: Enhancement of a Data Deficient Region

Summary

This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 103 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University. The Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL) at Ball State University conducted a data enhancement project for archaeological resources in Fulton County, Indiana for a FY2017 Historic Preservation Fund Grant (Grant #18-17FFY-04). This Historic Preservation Fund Grant project included the investigation of the archaeological resources of Fulton County, Indiana with a focus on four south-central townships (Henry, Liberty, Union, and Wayne), and General Land Office (GLO) sites in Rochester Township. A total of 924 acres (373.93 hectares) of agricultural land was surveyed which includes 4.36 acres of resurveyed area and identification of 108 new archaeological sites. The survey recovered 94 prehistoric artifacts and 1,806 historic artifacts from 11 parcels of land within Fulton County. No human remains were discovered as a result of this grant project. Cultural periods represented in the artifact assemblage include precontact era Early Archaic and Late Woodland components, in addition to 65 Historic components. The average site density recorded for the project area for precontact sites was one site per 18.11 acres and for Historic sites was one site per 14.22 acres.
