ROI120, Battle of Peckuwe: Site Identification & Documentation and Public Outreach, Clark County, Ohio
Summary
This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 120 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University.
The following report reflects collaboration amongst multiple archaeologists and student researchers. The project objective for this National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) grant was two-fold:
1) to delineate more clearly and accurately the boundaries of the Revolutionary War Battle of Peckuwe (1780);
2) to diminish threats to the battlefield through public education and engagement.
The project included a thorough review of historic sources. The primary field methods included metal detector and pedestrian surveys. New and existing archaeological results and research data were used to construct a GIS data model of the battlefield and a technical report. The overall goal of this project was to provide additional archaeological information necessary for the identification of battlefield boundaries and protection and preservation of the important physical site of the Battle of Peckuwe. We characterized landscape features significant to the battle using the ABPP’s KOCOA military terrain analysis.
