Archaeological Investigations at the "Old Chapel Field," St. Inigoes, Maryland (1992.030)
Summary
This project contains resources associated with archaeological investigations undertaken prior to the construction of utility lines and and EVM Test Facility proposed by the Naval Electronics Systems Engineering Activity (NESEA) in St. Inigoes, Maryland. Based on a previous survey, investigations focused on two areas known as "Old Chapel Field" and "Langley Hollow." Testing consisted of 406 shovel tests, four 5 x 5' units, and surface collection of three acres of plowed land. While Langley Hollow yielded little, Old Chapel Field proved to be rich in 18th-century artifacts and features and best avoided. Artifacts and associated records are curated at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory on behalf of the Navy.
