ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF AN EFFIGY VESSEL FROM THE WALLACE SITE (5MT6970), MONTEZUMA COUNTY, SOUTHWESTERN COLORADO (2009)
A ceramic effigy vessel recovered from the Wallace Site (5MT6970) in Montezuma County, southwestern Colorado, was submitted for organic residue analysis. Organic residues were tested using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Multiple test extractions were performed on the vessel in an effort to isolate and remove contaminants imparted on the vessel by labeling ink before a final extraction was performed to remove the organic residues from the interior of the vessel.

POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT BIG BEND HAMLET, SITE 5MT9387, SOUTHWEST COLORADO (1996)
Twelve pollen and twelve macrofloral examples were examined from feature fill and floor fill at Site 5MT9387 in southwest Colorado. Big Bend Hamlet (5MT9387) appears to have been occupied primarily during Basketmaker III times. Pollen and macrofloral analyses were used to answer questions pertinent to the problem domain of economy and adaptation.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT DANCING MAN HAMLET, SITE 5MT9343, SOUTHWEST COLORADO (1996)
Nine pollen and flotation samples were examined from feature fill and floor fill at the Dancing Man Hamlet (Site 5MT9343) in southwest Colorado. This site contained the remains of a fully stockaded Basketmaker III hamlet that appears to have experienced at least two occupation episodes during this period. Archaeobotanical analysis at this site was designed to answer questions of diet and subsistence. The problem domain of economy and adaptation is the most readily addressed through the...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5LP378, SOUTHWEST COLORADO (1997)
Soil samples from a pithouse at Site 5LP378 in southwest Colorado were analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. Three vegetal samples also were examined. This subrectangular pithouse is believed to have been occupied during the Early Pueblo I period, approximately the AD 790s or early AD 800s. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to address questions pertaining to evidence of foods being processed, types of wood burned as fuel, season of occupation, and evidence of ritual...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT11884, COLORADO (1999)
Samples from features at Site 5MT11884 in southwest Colorado were analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. This site represents at least a late Pueblo II habitation site that appears to have a experienced long-term occupation with salvaging and remodeling of features. Pollen and/or macrofloral samples were recovered from a mealing bin in a pitstructure, a kiva, a trash pit in a surface structure, and an extramural pit. The kiva is noted to have exhibited several characteristics...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT11950, COLORADO (1999)
Samples from features at Site 5MT11950 in southwest Colorado were analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. This site represents a late Pueblo III Mesa Verde Anasazi habitation. Pollen and/or macrofloral samples were recovered from a classic Mesa Verde style kiva, a probable kiva, a slab-lined fire box, and a slab-lined hearth. Both the kiva and the probable kiva appear to have been salvaged and burned prehistorically, probably after a short occupation. Pollen and macrofloral analyses...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT11958, COLORADO (1999)
Single pollen and flotation samples were recovered from a rubble concentration at Site 5MT11958 in southwestern Colorado. This site represents a late Pueblo II habitation. The rubble mound appears to represent a salvage pile of rocks that were intended to be used as masonry stones for construction of a structure. The pollen and macrofloral samples were collected from fill near the bottom of the concentration.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT7522, COLORADO (1999)
Sediment from features representing both Pueblo I and Pueblo II occupations at Site 5MT7522 in southwest Colorado were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Pollen and macrofloral analyses will be used to provide information concerning plant resources available to and utilized by the Pueblo I and Pueblo II occupants of the site.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5MT7712, SOUTHWEST COLORADO (1996)
Samples from Site 5MT7712 in southwest Colorado were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. This site is a large Pueblo II/III Anasazi habitation site, although only a small portion of the site was excavated and analyzed. Excavated features include a small two-room room block and associated internal features, a subterranean pit room and associated internal features, and hearth/pit/trash features associated with extramural activity surrounding the two-room room block. The excavated...
