An archaeological survey of 1,280 acres was conducted in Socorro County, New Mexico, on State of New Mexico and federal lands under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Army, White Sands Missile Range. During the survey 8 sites and 78 isolated artifacts were recorded, of which 5 of the sites are considered significant. Archaeological clearance is recommended with the stipulation that the sites be avoided and protected from further impacts.

Archaeological surveys have identified numerous prehistoric and historic archaeological sites in the Red Rio target area that are potentially eligible to the National Register of Historic Places. This resurvey documentation provides a baseline for future monitoring of these sites. All of the sites have been impacted by military activity and notably contain bomb craters, roads, and ordnance fragments. Two sites reflected loss of archaeological data.
