North Atlantic Biocultural Organization (NABO)
This project file contains NABO publications. NABO was founded over 20 years ago to attempt to cross-cut national and disciplinary boundaries and to help North Atlantic scholars make the most of the immense research potential of our damp and lovely research area. NABO has worked to aid in improving basic data comparability, in assisting practical fieldwork and interdisciplinary ventures, in promoting student training, and in better communicating our findings to other scholars, funding...
Notes on Hinckson Site Palynology (1992)
Draft of an article submitted for publication in, "Plateau." Suggests discrepancies between pollen cross-dating and ceramic cross-dates with tree rings may be the expected consequence of difference between the time pollen is deposited in a sample and the duration of the use-lifes of ceramic styles associated with the sample. Rejected by reviewers.
Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (OBAP)
A survey and excavation project directed by Keith Kintigh and executed from 1983 through 1994. Approximate 58km2 were surveyed and 560 sites were recorded. Substantial excavations were undertaken at the Hinkson Site great house complex and Jaralosa Pueblo. Test excavations were completed at H-Spear, a Chacoan Great House located by the project and Ojo Bonito Pueblo. The project took place on the ranch of Mrs. Everett (Mabel) Hinkson (deceased). Most of the project work was done as a part of...
Old Chapel Field (44ST233)
The Old Chapel Field site (18ST233) is part of an early Jesuit settlement located south of St. Mary’s City in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. St. Inigoes Manor, as the settlement was known historically, was in Jesuit hands by 1637. St. Inigoes served as their mission’s headquarters and home plantation throughout the 17th century. In addition, a fort was built there by 1637, in an effort to protect the fledgling colony from naval attack. This fort was large enough to accommodate the local population...
The Operation and Evolution of an Irrigation System: The East Papago Canal Study (1991)
Archaeological investigations sponsored by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) were conducted by Soil Systems, Inc. (SSI) at several sites within the East Papago Freeway corridor, including El Caserío (AZ T:12:49(ASM)), La Lomita (AZ U:9:67(ASM)), and La Lomita Pequeña (AZ U:9:66(ASM)). During the investigation of these sites, a significant number of canal alignments were encountered, prompting the sponsoring of the East Papago Canal Study by ADOT. Canal System 2, traversed by the...
Orange Grove
Multi-component project containing both historic and pre-historic elements. It is located in Pala San Diego. This project is for JPOWER and will consist of a new Power Station that will be placed directly onto the footprint of a historic orange grove. The other impacts will include water, natural gas, and energy lines that will be dug and laid between 10 and fifteen miles coming to the power plant. The power station location is approx. 4 miles from the Pala mission and the eastern boarder...
