On May 24, 1993, I met with Sergeant Swanson, construction manager for the trenching to be done in the parking lot behind Building #208. The trenching is in the area of site 48LA71L, the remains of two enlisted men's barracks built in 1885 which burned in the early 1920s. On 13 June 1985 during construction of an underground line, the construction contractor encountered a buried foundation. The Base Construction Inspector's office was notified immediately. The base archaeologist inspected the location and monitored the remaining construction in the area of the foundation. On April 22, 1985, a pedestrian cultural resource survey was conducted for the proposed replacement of the 6th Street Bridge which crosses Crow Creek in Section 26, T14N, R67W. Total area surveyed is approximately 1 acre. The project area has suffered extensive disturbance from previous construction.
