Cultural Resource Inventory Report Discovery of Buried Cultural Features, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming
Summary
On 13 June 1985 during construction of an underground line, the construction contractor encountered a buried foundation. The Base Construction Inspector's office was notified immediately. The base archaeologist inspected the location and monitored the remaining construction in the area of the foundation. Historical records indicate that the foundation remains are those of a fire station/guardhouse established to protect the stables. The building was constructed in 1909 and was razed sometime after 1941. Artifactual material associated with the construction was limited to three types of brick, roofing slate, wood, and unidentifiable metal fragments. Due to the association of this site with the Ft. D.A. Russell National Register Historic District, the site should be considered eligible for the National Register. The identification in the report was incorrect. The foundation was Building 301 - Blacksmith Shop/Wheelwright Shop.
