Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (OBAP)
PROJECT Keith Kintigh. Arizona State University (ASU). Arizona State Parks.

A survey and excavation project directed by Keith Kintigh and executed from 1983 through 1994. Approximate 58km2 were surveyed and 560 sites were recorded. Substantial excavations were undertaken at the Hinkson Site great house complex and Jaralosa Pueblo. Test excavations were completed at H-Spear, a Chacoan Great House located by the project and Ojo Bonito Pueblo. The project took place on the ranch of Mrs. Everett (Mabel) Hinkson (deceased). Most of the project work was done as a part of...

The Oshara Tradition: Origins of Anasazi Cutlure (1973)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Cynthia Iriwin-Williams.

Some of the most intriguing problems in the p re his to r-y of the New World concern the origins and development of the sophisticated sedentary town-dwelling Indians of the Southwestern United States, particularly the Pueblos. Seventy five 'years of extensive research have yielded a considerable amount of infor- matron on the immediate background of these native Pueblo peo- pl es , whose prehistoric representatives archaeologists group under the term Anasazi Culture. However, almost all of this...

Photographs (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Photographs are one of the few remaining ways to examine the now inundated archaeological sites in the DAP. Photographic images add context to specific aspects of Anasazi life in the DAP area; in a sense, DAP photography "provides the investigator with ways to understand the spatial integration of households and communities" (Wilshusen et al. 1999:115). Only a fraction of all photographs taken during the project can be found in the published series of DAP reports. Individuals wishing to access...

POLLEN ANALYSIS AT SITES LA 14695, 14702, 14703, 14704, AND 14705 WEST OF CHACO CANYON NATIONAL MONUMENT, NEW MEXICO (1978)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda J. Scott.

Pollen samples from five late Basketmaker III to Pueblo I sites in northwestern New Mexico have been the object of this study. Analysis was undertaken in an effort to provide specific subsistence information, as well as to evaluate the data concerning the environment of the sites during their occupation. Features including cists, bins, and vessels were sampled to provide the subsistence data.

POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT 42SA 12209 (1987)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda J. Scott. PaleoResearch Institute.

Nine paired pollen and macrofloral samples from four structures and a plaza at 42SA 12209 were analyzed. This Pueblo I habitation site exhibits evidence of numerous structures and a plaza, has been only partially excavated. Samples from portions of Structures 1, 2, 5, and 6 are addressed in this report. Pollen and macrofloral sampling concentrated on the recovery of data that would shed light on subsistence activities.

Rare Rocks (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Items in the DAP nonflaked lithic tool assemblage and miscellaneous material files that represent “unusual materials of geologic origin” have been collected within a single rare rocks dataset (Keane and Clay 1987:507). More specifically, the dataset contains both naturally occurring and culturally modified items comprised of geological resources that are found in the Dolores Valley, or have been transported over long distances (Keane and Clay 1987). Items fashioned from rare material types are...

River, Rain, or Ruin: Intermittent Prehistoric Land Use Along the Middle Colorado River (1994)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Uploaded by: Grant Snitker

This report presents the results of archaeological data recovery and analysis for the Archer site, AZ P:4:22 (ASM), located on the north bank of the Little Colorado River, near Holbrook, Arizona. The work was conducted by Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), to mitigate the adverse impacts of building an earthen levee on and adjacent to the site. The proposed levee is a water-control feature that is intended to protect the residents of Holbrook from periodic flooding of the Little Colorado River....

Between January 27 and February 15, and February 25 to May 6, 1974, the Museum of Northern Arizona acted as a consultant to Wirth Associates to study a series of alternate transmission line corridors to connect proposed Salt River Project coal-fired power plants at either the Snowflake or St. Johns localities to three substations in the Phoenix area. Then from April 11 to May 3, 1974, the Museum was contracted by Bechtel Power Corporation to complete Phase I survey investigations of the proposed...

Samples (1985)
DATASET Uploaded by: Jesse Clark

Wilshusen et al. (1999) indicate that this dataset should be viewed as a comprehensive inventory of DAP samples by type and number. Samples were collected for a variety of reasons including chronometric dating, environmental and geological studies, and special documentation. Obtaining the results of their analysis requires users to consult other DAP datasets. Variables in the samples dataset have already been described by Wilshusen et al. (1999); see especially the section entitled "Samples" by...
