Field School at the Biface III Site (12MI18) 1981-1982

Part of: US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District VCP

The excavation of Biface III Site 12MI18 took place from June 9th to July 7th 1982. The Ball State University Archaeological Field School, under the direction of Dr. B.K. Swartz, conducted the excavation. Undergraduate students Mary Lou James, Dawn E. Pepper, Carl D. Ebbert, Walter Brumfield, Jo Goldberg, Julia Washbum, and Barbara Lumbis conducted the fieldwork. The investigation was conducted in Miami County, Indiana. A previous surface collection was conducted in 1981 by William R. Wepler and Donald R. Cochran (James and Ebbert, N.D.).

There are field records dating from the 1981 surface collection in the archives, hence why the investigation name has the date ranges 1981–1982. However, the 1981 artifacts are not a part of this collection.

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the artifact database, artifact photographs, artifact report, finding aid, oversized material spreadsheet and scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include accession file, additional artifact photographs, artifact care/methodology, artifact sketches, document folder listings, excavation unit summary records, field catalogue records, field notes, drafts of field reports, initial data sheet, letters of correspondence, maps, maps of trench orientation and location, oversized material labels, photographic material excel spreadsheet, project objectives, project proposals, records removal sheet, slide labels, stratigraphy records, and a thesis related to the archaeological site. For additional information on these materials, refer to the Finding Aid.
