Research, Interpretation, and Engagement in Post-Contact Archaeology of the Great Lakes Region
Part of: Society for Historical Archaeology 2021
This collection contains the abstracts of the papers presented in the session entitled "Research, Interpretation, and Engagement in Post-Contact Archaeology of the Great Lakes Region," at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
It has been more than twenty years since the survey volume “Retrieving Michigan’s Buried Past” provided a general overview of archaeology in the Great Lakes. Since its publication post-Contact period archaeological research in the Great Lakes region is experiencing a resurgence. Archaeologists are exploring varied questions, reinterpreting old collections, discovering new techniques for surveying and investigating sites, and building lasting partnerships to engage diverse publics. This session highlights recent contributions in historic archaeology in the Great Lakes region.
