POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND STARCH ANALYSIS OF THREE PRE-LATTE/EARLY LATTE PHASE FEATURES FROM IBB S4, TINIAN
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings
Year: 2004
Summary
Three combination pollen, starch, and phytolith samples were examined from three
separate pits at site IBB S4 on Tinian. Pollen, starch, and phytoliths were examined from these
pits in an effort to identify whether or not any were agricultural pits or perhaps used in processing
agricultural crops grown in this area. Occupation is dated to the end of the transitional Pre-Latte/Early Latte Phase, anchored by a radiocarbon age of AD 690-790 on charcoal recovered from
the large pit represented by sample 26.
