Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Chad Yost; Melissa K. Logan
Year: 2011
Summary
Ceramic sherds from the Ravens Nest site (48SU3871) in Sublette County, Wyoming, were submitted for pollen, phytolith, starch, and organic residue analysis at two different times. Pollen, phytolith, and starch analysis was undertaken to provide information concerning plants that might have been processed. Organic residue testing used Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). This analysis provides information concerning the compounds that were extracted from the sherd and through matches with our reference library of raw and processed plants, information concerning foods that might have been cooked in the vessels represented.
