Monitoring Report of Tree Removal at National Register Eligible 38SU106 Prepared by New South Associates

Summary

On July 9th and 10th, 2008 Natalie Adams of New South Associates monitored tree removal from National Register eligible site 38SU106, which is located along Strafe Pit Road at Poinsett Electronic Combat Range in Sumter County, South Carolina. This monitoring was performed at the request of Mr. Chuck Cantley of the South Carolina State Historic Preservation Office and Mr. Dave Davis of Shaw Air Force Base. During the monitoring, the only artifacts noted were on the surface of Strafe Pit Road. They consisted of several sherds and pieces of lithic debitage, as well as one uniface. No artifacts were collected. As a result of the monitoring of tree removal at 38SU106, no significant deposits were noted. The site does not appear to have incurred damage to intact deposits as a result of this activity.
