Cultural Resources Survey of the Avanti Tract Charleston Co., SC
Summary
Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the 102
acre Avanti Tract in northern Charleston County, South Carolina in September 2004. The project
tract is located near Ladson, SC on Ladson Road, directly across from its intersection with Jamison
Road.
During this survey investigators identified one site, site 38CH2021, at the southern portion
of the project tract. Site 38CH2021 contains an early to mid-twentieth century surface scatter of
artifacts, and most prominently, a large hand-dug pit associated with an abandoned still operation.
No subsurface artifacts or features were found during shovel testing on the site. We recommend site
38CH2021 not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). There are no standing
structures present within the boundaries of the Avanti Tract. Development activities in the Avanti
Tract will not affect any historic properties.
