Summary
The College of William and Mary Center for Archaeological Research (WMCAR) conducted a Phase II archaeological evaluation of Site 44PGl85, associated with the proposed Route 630 Widening Project in Prince George County, Virginia, from March 8 through March 16, 1993 (Figure 1). This evaluation was conducted in accordance with an agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Project 0630-074-188, C501, B632.
The evaluation was carried out under the general supervision of Dennis B. Blanton, Director of Research. Stevan C. Pullins served as Project Archaeologist and was responsible for the organization and implementation of the field program, and the preparation of the final report. WMCAR Field Archaeologists Clifton Huston, Christopher McDaid, Jobo MuDen, and Joseph Sites aided in the execution of the field program. Mr. Don Linebaugh oversaw the administrative aspects of the project. Deborah Davenport supervised laboratory processing and conducted historic artifact analysis; Anna L. Gray and Dennis B. Blanton conducted the analysis of prehistoric artifacts. Final illustrations for the report were prepared by Anne Beckett. All photographs and documentation related to this project are on file with the WMCAR in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The purpose of this Phase II investigation was to evaluate the resources previously identified during the Phase I survey in terms of the criteria for eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places, as well as to identify the effects of proposed construction on those resources that appear to be eligible.
