Geological Impacts to Archaeological Sites Located within the Tucson Aqueduct System Reliability Investigation (TASRI) and the Pascua Yaqui Farm Development Survey Areas
Author(s): Gary Huckleberry
Year: 1993
Summary
At the request of the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) inspected archaeological sites located within the Tucson Aqueduct System Reliability Investigation (TASRI) and the Pascua Yaqui Farm Development areas. The purpose of the investigation was to assess physical processes that have impacted the integrity of archaeological sites and estimate the potential for buried features and artifacts. All of the sites appear to be Hohokam, protohistoric, and historic in age. An Archaic projectile point was found within the project area, but it appears to be an isolated occurrence. Because the project area contains degraded soils, it was especially important to assess the impact of erosion to site integrity. This report provides an overview of the geomorphology and soils in the TASRI and Yaqui Farm Development areas and present evidence for historic erosion that has exposed and modified the archaeological record.
This assessment was done on sites discovered in 1992 during two separate surveys. The reports of those surveys can be found at the following links:
