Summary
Background research including an evaluation of the geology and environment, a walkover of the project area, prehistoric site files check and an evaluation of the sensitivity of prehistoric sites. The historical background research included a site files check and a summary of the history of the PIN 6066.41.101 project area.
Field investigations included descriptions of: The Ashland Site, The Bosworth Site, The Lamb Site, The Lowman Distillery Site, The Railroad Site, The Baldwin Creek Site, The Monument Site, The Lowman Site (loci 1-3), the 1779 Newton Battlefield Site, and Isolated finds. All of which would be impacted by construction along Route 17.
Site examinations were requested for the Bosworth Site, the Lamb Site, and Lowman Site (loci 1 and 2). The authors suggest that the current boundaries of Newton Battlefield Memorial Park, which is a National Historic Landmark, be extended to cover the full area of the Newton Battlefield, Which would include the project area of PIN 6066.41.101
