Part of the PIN 0757.46.121 project

Author(s): Michael J. Lenardi; Mark LoRusso

Year: 2006

Summary

A total of three archaeological sites, one prehistoric and two historic, were identified during the reconnaissance survey of Grangebel Park. Two of the three, the Grangebel Park Site (NYSM# 11619) and the Griffing Site (NYSM# 11620) contained intact archaeological deposits underneath disturbed fill, and were therefore subjected to more intensive excavation during the subsequent site examination survey. Subsurface testing conducted within the bounds of the third site, the Bridge Street Carriage Shop (NYSM# 11598), indicated that the area had experienced extreme levels of disturbance in the past and was therefore precluded from further archaeological investigation.

No previous investigations are known to have been conducted within the Grangebel Park property other than the previous pre-reconnaissance survey (Lenardi and LoRusso 2005).
