On Olmec niche figures, altars and thrones

Summary
The Olmec site of La Venta in southeaster Mexico has a wide repertoire of sculptures known as "altars". These will be reviewed in terms of form and compared to similar kinds of sculptures in the Gulf Coast lowlands and other regions, in order to thematically and functionally differentiate between them.
