Technical Proposal: For an Archaeological Data Recovery Project Along the Salt River Project Coronado Coal Haul Railroad
Author(s): SWCA Environmental Consultants
Year: 1990
Summary
The following document constitutes a proposal for archaeological data recovery within planned expansions of the Salt River Project Coronado Coal Haul Railroad. The proposal is in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by Salt River Project. The project area is located in Apache County, Arizona, south of Interstate 40 near the town of Navajo. Three sites are listed in the RFP and specific information regarding the impacts to those sites and the location of the sites in relation to the Coal Haul Railroad are provided. Presently, the proposed project is funded entirely by Salt River Project as a private undertaking. All resources to be investigated are also located on private property. The project is, therefore, being implemented voluntarily as a private undertaking in response to Salt River Project’s concern for cultural resources.
Although the principal goal of the project will be to adequately mitigate impacts to the three sites, SWCA has prepared an investigative strategy designed to address specific archaeological problems identified at each site. Due to the large number of features, cultural complexity of the sites, and results of previous studies at these sites, this proposal will apply field methods that enable the research team to collect, analyze, and synthesize data sets concerned with specific problems.
