Archaeological Testing for the McDowell Road and Gilbert Road Intersection Improvement Project, Mesa, Arizona
Author(s): Sharon K. Bauer; A.E. Rogge; Melissa Keane; Jerry B. Howard; Kristopher S. Shepard
Year: 1997
Summary
To accommodate increased traffic, MCDOT (Maricopa County Department of Transportation) is proposing to upgrade the intersection of McDowell and Gilbert roads by constructing turning lanes and installing traffic lights. The project requires widening each road as it approaches the intersection. In addition, temporary construction easements beyond the expanded rights-of-way will be needed in some areas for relocating fences, utilities, and irrigation and drainage ditches. MCDOT retained Dames & Moore to assist in complying with the Arizona Antiquities Act by conducting archaeological testing within the construction zone.
