Using GIS and underwater sampling in the Armação de Pêra bay, Portugal

Author(s): Leandro Infantini

Year: 2013

Summary

Aiming to contribute to an understanding of underwater landscapes and the evolution of shorelines, this work presents research in the submerged area of the Armação de Pêra bay (southern Portugal). Due to logistical difficulties involved in studying this context, it was necessary to develop two main approaches. On the one hand, it was necessary to collect underwater samples using a drilling system. On the other hand, it was necessary to develop and manage a Geographic Information System (GIS) for  characterization and morphological analysis using a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) built from bathymetric data.
