Year: 1977

Summary

This project is for the purchase of land in Blossom Point, Maryland which is currently leased by the Government for use by the Harry Diamond Laboratories (HDL) as a field test area, part of which is utilized through an out-grant from HDL to the Navy for use by the Navy as a communication station to contact earth satellites. The property owners do not wish to continue this lease, therefore the Government in consideration of the cost and factors involved in clearing the land of unexploded munitions is preparing this project for the land acquisition. This EIA is prepared in compliance with Army Regulation (AR) 200-1 to identify the environmental impacts from this proposed action. This site is one of the prime HDL test areas which has been used for field testing of fuzes since 1942 under lease agreement with the Corporation of Roman Catholic Brothers of Maryland. This test area is contaminated with the variety of unexploded ordinances which have accumulated since the original lease in 1942.
