Summary

This report presents the results of archaeological testing conducted on a parcel of land located in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. The testing was conducted at the request of the City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department prior to proposed housing development within the parcel. The testing was conducted under an on-call archaeological services contract between the City of Phoenix and SWCA (contract no. 90034), and was assigned project number PGM 2000-3 by the City of Phoenix Archaeology Section. The archaeological work was done to determine if prehistoric canals or other remains that have been documented in the vicinity were present within the project area. The parcel is owned by Neighborhood Housing Services, a private non-profit institution.

The testing consisted of the excavation of four backhoe trenches within the parcel. Three isolated prehistoric artifacts were found within two of the trenches, and a single artifact was found on the surface of the parcel. No canals or other significant cultural remains were found within the parcel, and no further archaeological work is recommended for the project area.
