An Archaeological Survey of a 6.13 acre Parcel, Pima County, Arizona

Author(s): S. Jerome Hesse

Year: 2006

Summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) was contracted by Outpost Development to conduct an archaeological survey of a 6.13-acre, privately owned parcel (114-23-001G) in unincorporated Pima County, Arizona. Outpost Development proposes to develop the property as a small, multi-home residential community to be known as Outpost Preserve. The archaeological survey was a requirement of Outpost Development’s Pima County grading permit application.

The archaeological survey of the project area resulted in the identification of one archaeological site and one isolated occurrence. Archaeological site AZ BB:9:413 (ASM) is a small, low- to moderate-density Hohokam sherd-and-flaked-stone artifact scatter. No surface features are present. Eligibility testing is recommended to identify the presence or absence of subsurface features that could answer research questions pertaining to the Hohokam occupation of the northeastern Tucson Basin. The site should be avoided until an eligibility determination is made.
